Although media in this day and age brings to mind Facebook, Twitter and CNN, books are still an incredibly important part of spreading information. Books are increasingly published or read in electronic format, but Australia still publishes well over 8,000 books a year. But as there are also many people who are still passionate about books, finding work in the publishing field requires enthusiasm, dedication and knowhow.

One can certainly apply for entry-level positions, and hope to gain hands-on experience, leading to more rewarding, and more lucrative positions however independent study can put you leagues ahead of the competition. With the associate diploma in media there is some flexibility in the electives, allowing you to tailor the course to your particular needs. The method of study also allows you to concentrate on the areas that interest you most. While you must satisfy your tutorĂ¢Â€ös requirements for each module, it is possible to take advantage of an experienced teacher and industry expert to help you study certain areas of interest in depth. You work at your own pace, and if you want to spend six months studying HTML or advanced technical writing, you can do so. One, three or 15 of these courses will put you on the path to a career in publishing.
