Plant Courses

There are roughly 300,000 known species of plants on this planet, including 10,000 algae, 12,000 ferns and 16,000 mosses. To learn about them all would take several lifetimes. But, fortunately, most people only need to know about a few, some hundreds at most. More likely, one will specialise. Farmers will learn about crops, foresters will learn about trees, gardeners will learn about the pretty plants.

We provide courses on native Australian plants, bonsai, cacti & succulents and carnivorous plants, as well as plant breeding, plant health, botany and biochemistry. Options range from a statement of achievement course in ferns or perennials to the 900 hour Advanced Certificate In Applied Plant Science which covers all the scientific aspects of plant care, and also strives to give a real sense of how this knowledge can be applied to the world at large, for commercial benefit.

Potential careers include horticulture in general (working in a nursery or botanical garden, as a garden consultant, as a landscaper and so on), parks and recreation management, natural lands reclamation, plant breeding or cut flower production. Browsing through the courses on offer will generate many ideas for working with plants as an employee, or as an entrepreneur with a “growing” business.
